How Jesus Christ Got “More” Done

I’m constantly looking for new strategies or information on how to be more productive, or live with intentionality and purpose. Somehow, I seem to forget that Jesus Christ was the best example on how I should live my life before God, after all, He was and is God!

So, what did Jesus do?

  1. He did the right things – John 5:19 says, “…the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.”
  2. He understood who He was and what His purpose and mission were – John 18:37 – “Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

I don’t think that Jesus, got “more” done, but that he only got the “right” things done because He knew who He was and why He was sent here. He did only what He saw the Father doing. His identity and mission kept Him on course. We get mixed up into so many things that deter us from our calling because we don’t know what the Father is doing, nor do we know our purpose or mission. This leads to two questions:

  1. What is God telling you to do? This I feel is difficult because it requires us to stop and invest in the most important relationship in our lives. This does not come naturally, but with time, it becomes easier. You see, in order to know what He is telling us to do, we have to stop and listen! We have to know what His voice actually sounds like so that we can recognize it (Jn 10:27).
  2. What is God’s mission and purpose for your life? I wish I could tell you that one, but honestly, I’m just as clueless as you are on how God shows you His purpose and mission for your life. I can tell you the generalized elements that it will have in it, such as, “It will glorify God, and point people to Him, etc.” Yet, how to find what it is specifically, I believe, is a process of discovering how God has designed you. I will tell you that you need to start where you are, right now, do your best for Him! Don’t wait for God to reveal your purpose, start living EVERY area of your life as unto the Lord! This will lay the foundation you need to have for when He does reveal His specific purpose and mission for your life.
